(PRESS RELEASE) MLADÁ BOLESLAV, 8-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — In celebration of its 130th anniversary, Škoda Auto has partnered with Czech watchmaker Prokop & Brož to create a limited series of 130 exclusive Laurin & Klement wristwatches. Inspired by the historic Laurin & Klement BSC model from 1908, these bespoke timepieces pay tribute to both Škoda’s automotive legacy and the craftsmanship of the Czech Republic. The limited edition watches will be available in select European markets starting in September 2025.

A Tribute to Craftsmanship and Innovation

The Laurin & Klement wristwatch series was created to honor the founding of Laurin & Klement in 1895, the predecessor to Škoda Auto. The 1908 Laurin & Klement BSC sports car, an emblem of early automotive engineering, served as the perfect muse for this commemorative timepiece. The BSC was a landmark in automotive design, featuring an in-line engine layout and various body types that catered to the needs of early 20th-century customers.

“This collaboration with Prokop & Brož celebrates our 130-year legacy in the Czech Republic and highlights the exceptional craftsmanship that has long been a part of our brand,” said Martin Jahn, Škoda Auto Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “The Laurin & Klement 130 Limited Edition wristwatch perfectly marries the art of watchmaking with the heritage of Škoda Auto.”

Inspired by the 1908 Laurin & Klement BSC

The designers at Prokop & Brož took inspiration from the Laurin & Klement BSC, one of the Škoda Museum’s most valuable exhibits. The wristwatch reflects key elements of the car, including the off-center second hand, which is modeled after the dashboard clock of the 1908 BSC. The main hands of the watch are designed similarly to the pocket watches integrated into the car’s dashboard, showcasing the fine craftsmanship of the era.

The watch’s dial is created using Prokop & Brož’s proprietary Brosmalt technology, with the undercoat pigmentation matching the car’s Pearl White paint. Each watch in the series will feature a unique number on the dial, reinforcing the exclusivity of the edition. The design combines 19th-century aesthetics with the timeless appeal of classic watches, making the pieces perfect for collectors and enthusiasts.

The crown of the watch is laser-engraved with the Laurin & Klement emblem, a nod to the vintage car’s radiator emblem, further tying the timepiece to its automotive inspiration.

Two Versions for Collectors

The limited edition of the Laurin & Klement wristwatch will consist of two versions: a prestige version and a standard edition. The first 30 watches will be crafted with 18K gold cases and components, while the remaining 100 pieces will feature stainless steel cases. The color of the strap is designed to resemble the leather straps used to tension the BSC car’s canvas roof, adding a unique historical touch.

The Laurin & Klement BSC: A Historic Treasure

The Laurin & Klement BSC, which has been part of the Škoda Museum collection since 2016, is the only surviving example of the model. After undergoing a two-year renovation, the car was restored using original drawings and authentic mechanical components, including the engine with its original serial number. The BSC series holds an important place in Škoda’s history, showcasing advancements in engine layout and body design compared to the brand’s early vehicles.
