(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 27-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY), a German semiconductor manufacturer, has introduced the OPTIGA™ Connect Consumer OC1230, the world’s smallest GSMA-compliant and first 28 nm eSIM solution, designed to meet the growing demand for enhanced functionality, simplicity, and longer battery life in consumer electronics. This innovative eSIM offers up to 50 percent lower energy consumption compared to other eSIMs currently available, extending the device’s battery life without compromising on performance. Additionally, it enables remote management of eSIMs, which reduces the need for physical SIM card changes, saving both time and resources while offering greater flexibility for device manufacturers and consumers alike. Smartphone users will benefit from the ease of switching between mobile providers, and manufacturers can design devices without requiring physical access to SIM cards, a significant advantage in IoT applications.

The OPTIGA Connect Consumer OC1230’s architecture is based on Arm® v8 technology and Infineon’s Integrity Guard 32, offering enhanced security and improved power efficiency. Compared to existing eSIM solutions, this new model provides a 25 percent improvement in power-to-performance ratio, further optimizing battery life. Additionally, it supports remote SIM provisioning (RSP) and multiple enabled profiles (MEP) as defined by the GSMA SGP.22 v3, allowing users to download and activate multiple mobile network profiles remotely.

At just 1.8 x 1.6 x 0.4 mm, the eSIM’s ultra-small chip-scale packaging is 37 times smaller than Nano SIMs and 130 times smaller than traditional SIM cards, dramatically reducing the space required on printed circuit boards (PCBs). It is also available in an X2QFN20 package measuring 3.0 x 3.0 x 0.3 mm. The OPTIGA Connect Consumer OC1230 boasts 1 MB of memory, allowing it to support multiple network operator profiles as well as additional applications and user data.

Security is a key focus of the OPTIGA Connect Consumer OC1230, which has been evaluated according to BSI-CC-PP-0100-2018, meets the GSMA SGP.25 specifications, and features hardware ready for post-quantum cryptography (PQC).

The OPTIGA Connect Consumer OC1230 is now available for use in a variety of devices, including smartphones, tablets, notebooks, wearables like smartwatches, 5G routers, and POS payment terminals. For more details, please visit the official product page.
