(PRESS RELEASE) GRONINGEN, 17-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Bilfinger has entered into a strategic long-term partnership with Gasunie, one of the Netherlands’ primary energy network operators, to provide comprehensive maintenance, engineering, and management services. The partnership, finalized on January 16, 2025, is aimed at supporting the sustainable and future-proof development of Gasunie’s gas transport infrastructure. Bilfinger, in cooperation with its partners BAM and Koninklijke Kuijpers, will contribute their expertise in areas such as piping, mechanical engineering, electrical systems, civil work, and building installations to ensure the continued efficiency and safety of the gas transport network. The ten-year agreement, which strengthens the existing collaboration between the two companies, will focus on maintaining, replacing, and expanding the current infrastructure to accommodate the transition from natural gas to renewable energies like hydrogen, biogas, and the transportation of CO2.

This agreement is part of Gasunie’s broader initiative to future-proof its infrastructure and help drive the energy sector’s transition toward more sustainable solutions. Gasunie CEO Willemien Terpstra emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing changing market conditions, focusing on safety, flexibility, and sustainability. The goal is to develop infrastructure capable of supporting the storage and transportation of renewable energy, particularly hydrogen, and to manage CO2 transport, aligning with both national and international environmental goals.

Thierry Burki, President of Engineering & Maintenance at Bilfinger, expressed excitement about the expanded partnership, noting that combining the strengths of Bilfinger, BAM, and Koninklijke Kuijpers provides comprehensive solutions for both traditional and renewable energy needs. Bilfinger’s continued support for Gasunie’s sustainability goals reflects the company’s strategic focus on enhancing efficiency and environmental responsibility.

This new agreement follows a previous collaboration between Bilfinger and Gasunie, which began in 2024, covering engineering services for projects related to hydrogen and CO2 transportation and storage.
