Dornbirn / Austria, 3-11-2012 — /europawire.eu/ — The Zumtobel Group’s luminaire plant in Dornbirn has been awarded second place in the “Fabrik2012” competition. Initiated by the publication “Industriemagazin” and the research organisation Fraunhofer Austria, this production award assesses domestic plants for exemplary production practices in a multi-stage evaluation. Experts from Fraunhofer Austria ranked the participants according to criteria such as supply chain management and production principles as well as looking at logistics, customer and supplier relationships. The Zumtobel plant in Schweizer Straße was visited by the jury as part of the evaluation. The awards are presented annually and last year the Zumtobel plant in Dornbirn succeeding in attaining third place. “We are delighted to receive this award. Our strategy of transparency and flexibility, and our employees’ sense of ownership enabled us to score highly in the competition. Our current investment in expanding the site is a major step for the future,” says Thomas Bischof, Director of Zumtobel’s Dornbirn plant.

Expansion of the luminaire plant is aimed at further increase in efficiency
To ensure that it continues to rank among the leaders in the field, the Zumtobel Group is investing some 20 million euros in expanding the luminaire plant at its home base in Dornbirn. A new production building is to be built on the existing factory premises at the Schweizer Straße site. Work on the foundations is already under way. The load-bearing capacity of the new hall has to satisfy stringent requirements. Piles of 32 to 34 metres in length are being driven into the ground for this purpose. The foundation work is scheduled for completion at the end of the year and will be followed by the structural work and other services. The new factory hall is planned to go into operation at the end of 2013.
With the expansion of the luminaire plant encompassing 8,000 square metres of production space and 1,600 square metres for offices, the Zumtobel Group is affirming its commitment to its Dornbirn headquarters. At the same time, Zumtobel is pursuing its goal of achieving significant increases in the efficiency of material supply and production processes.
