THE HAGUE, 17-Jan-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — 21 researchers who have recently received their PhDs can do their research at foreign research institutes thanks to a Rubicon grant from NWO. The Rubicon programme gives young, highly promising researchers the opportunity to gain international research experience.
Thanks to the Rubicon grant, these young researchers can do their research at top institutes like the Princeton University, Harvard University and the Institute for Psychology (University of Freiburg). Eighteen Rubicon researchers will go abroad for a period of 24 months, two will go for a period of twelve months and of for twenty months. For many researchers, experience abroad is an important step in their career. The awards are for the second funding round of 2017.
Facts and figures
A total of 79 researchers submitted a proposal for Rubicon, of which 42 women and 37 men. The overall award rate was 26,6%. The award rate was 23,8% for women and 29,7% for men. Nine laureates are going to the United States, three to Austria, one to the United Kingdom, one to Germany, one to New Zealand, one to Canada, one to Australia, one to Denmark and one to Finland. For many researchers, experience abroad is an important step in their career.
With a Rubicon grant researchers can conduct research for a period up to 24 months at a foreign research institute. The size of the grant depends on the destination chosen and the length of stay. NWO is able to fund around 60 young researchers through Rubicon every year (for a total sum of 7 million euros, spread over three rounds).
