Windpower Monthly named Gamesa’s G114-2.0 MW the best turbine of the year in the up to 2.9 MW category

  • The 5 MW platform ranked in the top ten in both the onshore 3 MW-plus and offshore turbine categories.

Biscay, Spain, 06-1-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — The G114-2.0 MW has been named the best turbine of the year in the up to 2.9 MW category by trade journal Windpower Monthly. In its appraisal of the winning turbine, the journal highlighted the rotor diameter, which guarantees a very low power density, in turn boosting the capacity factor attainable. According to Windpower Monthly, the highest portion of onshore turbines falls into this category, making it the most hotly contested market segment.

Meanwhile, Gamesa’s 5.0 MW platform also ranked in the top ten of both the onshore 3 MW-plus and offshore turbine categories.

There are currently two G114-2.0 MW prototypes in operation, one in Alaiz (Navarra, Spain) and the other in Texas (US); the first commercial wind farm with this turbine has already been commissioned in Sweden, while the order backlog for this product stands at over 800 MW.

This is the second year in a row in which a turbine made by Gamesa has taken the gold medal in the ‘small’ turbine category which in 2013 encompassed all products with a nominal capacity of up to 2.0 MW. The company’s 850 kW turbine took first place last year, while the G114-2.0 MW ranked third.
