Welsh Water to start work on essential water network upgrades in the Mayhill and Osbaston areas in Monmouth

Nelson, Wales, 4-4-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Welsh Water is set to start work on essential water network upgrades in the Mayhill and Osbaston areas in Monmouth to ensure customers there receive a first class water supply for years to come.

The investment work, which will start in April, will involve replacing one kilometre of water main with a new plastic pipe.

Part of this work will involve replacing the water main through the underpass which leads from the Monmouth Rowing Club to the Monmouth Leisure centre under the A40.

This section of work is currently scheduled to take place from 23rd June for 2 weeks.

This date is dependent on all prior works running to schedule however, we will keep people updated should these dates change. Information will also be available on our website, www.dwrcymru.com.

We are aware that some canoeists, and other river users access the river at this point and we will do our best to maintain pedestrian access to this area during the course of the work. Vehicular access will not be possible between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, with the exception of emergency vehicles. We will however reopen the underpass, wherever possible, in the evenings and on weekends so that water sports equipment can be collected at the end of each day.

Welsh Water’s Delivery Manager, Roy Samuel said: “We have been liaising with the local community to try to minimise disruption to all those affected by our works. We know that our work can cause disruption and we would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience whilst we carry out these essential upgrades.”

Local town Councillor Anthea Dewhurst said: “We are pleased that Welsh Water is investing in Monmouth to ensure we have a reliable, good quality supply of water. We are also happy that they have been liaising with the local community to try and minimise disruption to residents and businesses.”
