Warwick Volunteers Receives Prestigious King’s Award for Outstanding Community Impact

With 926 students dedicating over 13,200 hours to projects in areas such as youth support, homelessness, and conservation, Warwick Volunteers has made a lasting impact across Coventry and Warwickshire. The award will be formally presented next year, and representatives will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in 2025 to celebrate.

(PRESS RELEASE) COVENTRY, 14-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Warwick Volunteers, a student-led organization at the University of Warwick, has been honored with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2024, the most prestigious award for voluntary groups in the UK, equivalent to an MBE. This recognition highlights their exceptional contributions to community service across Coventry and Warwickshire.

In the past year, 926 student volunteers dedicated over 13,200 hours to 135 impactful projects, supporting causes ranging from youth engagement to homelessness relief and environmental conservation. Modhurima Islam, Student President of Warwick Volunteers, expressed pride in the group’s achievement, attributing the honor to the volunteers’ enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to making a difference.

Students shared how Warwick Volunteers has enriched their university experience. Domini, a Biomedical Sciences student, described the organization as pivotal to her personal growth, transforming her from a volunteer to a student leader. Sophie, a Statistics undergraduate, spoke about the value of giving back to the community while gaining personal development and essential life skills.

Warwick Volunteers collaborates with local organizations, including CV Life, Canley Community Centre, and Coventry and Warwickshire Mind. Rupert Hedley, Volunteer Coordinator at CV Life, praised Warwick Volunteers for providing motivated and reliable student support over the years, while Anna-Marie Corbett, Canley Community Centre Manager, emphasized the positive impact of student involvement in the local community.

The official presentation of the award will take place next year, with Timothy Cox, Lord-Lieutenant of Warwickshire, presenting Warwick Volunteers with a crystal and certificate. Additionally, two representatives will be invited to Buckingham Palace for a celebratory garden party in 2025. Warwick Volunteers joins 280 other organizations across the UK receiving The King’s Award for Voluntary Service this year, showcasing the diverse and impactful work of volunteer groups nationwide.
