(PRESS RELEASE) WOLFSBURG, 19-Jan-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Volkswagen Group (ETR: VOW3), one of the world’s leading manufacturers of automobiles and commercial vehicles, is introducing a revolutionary new feature in its upcoming ID.7 electric saloon: a smart air conditioning system that activates before passengers even get into the car. The ID.7, set to premiere in the second quarter of 2023, will use electronically controlled air vents that distribute air throughout the vehicle as soon as the driver approaches with the key, providing a faster and more efficient cooling or heating of the interior before the start of a journey.

The new system also takes into account individual user preferences and reacts to voice commands. The air conditioning function can be found on the infotainment display and can be adjusted and saved individually. The ID.7 will also be the first Volkswagen model to detect the position of the sun and adjust the air conditioning accordingly.

The system also includes “smart air vents” that react quickly and function like fans. When the door is opened in conditions with high outside temperatures, the smart air vents in the cockpit distribute the air quickly over a large area by means of dynamic horizontal movements. When the passengers are seated in the car, the air flow can be redirected straight at the body or used for indirect ventilation of the interior space, according to the preference.

With a camouflaged concept vehicle, Volkswagen provided a first glimpse of the new ID.7 at the world’s largest consumer electronics show, the CES in Las Vegas. Kai Grünitz, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Development, said: “With the ID.7, we are underlining our goal to offer intelligent technologies and customer-oriented innovations in the high-volume premium mid-size segment.”

The ID.7 is expected to set new standards in comfort and user-friendliness in its class with the introduction of this advanced air conditioning system. The focus on user-friendly operation and the ability to customize the system to individual preferences will make the ID.7 a top choice for consumers looking for a comfortable and convenient driving experience.

In addition, the ID.7 will also be the first VW model with detection of the sun’s position and will adapt the air conditioning to an even more pleasant temperature, by using the sensor in the area of the windscreen to detect the incident angle of the sunlight in conditions with high outside temperatures and high solar intensity.

The ID.7 is set to be a game-changer in the electric vehicle market, and with this smart air conditioning system, Volkswagen is taking a big step towards providing a comfortable and convenient driving experience.

Market launch of the ID.7 in 2023

Following the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.602 (only in China) and the ID. Buzz03, the ID.7 will be the sixth model of the all-electric ID. family. After the ID.4, it will be the second global vehicle from Volkswagen based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB). The world premiere of the ID.7 is scheduled for the second quarter of 2023. The market launch of the electric saloon in China and Europe is planned for this year. North America will follow in 2024.

Where ranges are stated, the values for consumption and CO₂ emissions depend on the selected vehicle equipment.
