(IN BRIEF) Volkswagen has renewed its partnership with UEFA for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, supporting the tournament and seven national teams, including Germany, France, and Italy. This sponsorship highlights Volkswagen’s ongoing commitment to female empowerment in sports and global visibility for its all-electric ID. family of models. The partnership aims to drive gender equality in football while increasing awareness of Volkswagen’s sustainability efforts.

(PRESS RELEASE) WOLFSBURG, 5-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Volkswagen is returning to the UEFA football pitch as an official partner of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, which will be held in Switzerland from 2 to 27 July. Following their successful partnership at the 2022 Women’s EURO in England, Volkswagen continues its strong commitment to female empowerment and equality in sports by supporting the tournament and seven participating national teams.

Christine Wolburg, Chief Brand Officer of Volkswagen, shared, “We have been actively supporting both women’s football and women in football for years. Sponsoring the UEFA Women’s EURO this summer reflects our ongoing dedication to visibility, fairness, and true participation in the sport.”

Volkswagen is not only sponsoring the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 but is also supporting seven of the 16 participating national teams: Germany, Switzerland (the host), France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, and Italy. Sponsorship agreements have been signed with Volkswagen importers and the national football associations in these countries. In addition to the tournament, Volkswagen will organize various activities in other football-loving markets before and during the championship.

The partnership’s second key goal, alongside promoting gender equality in sports, is to increase global awareness of Volkswagen’s ID. family of all-electric models. “We’re using this international platform to showcase our innovative electric vehicle models to a broader audience,” Wolburg explained.

Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA Marketing Director, commented, “UEFA is thrilled to welcome Volkswagen back as an official sponsor of the UEFA Women’s EURO. Their continued support highlights a shared belief in the growth and potential of women’s football. As the tournament unfolds in Switzerland, this partnership is a crucial investment in advancing the sport and providing more opportunities for women and girls across all levels.”

The UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 will take place across eight host cities in Switzerland and is expected to be the most successful edition yet, with record-breaking attendance, investments, and fan engagement.

Volkswagen’s commitment to women’s football is also reflected in its support of the women’s team at VfL Wolfsburg, a wholly owned subsidiary of the company. For over twelve years, the team has been one of the most successful in Europe, winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League twice, the German championship seven times, and the German Cup eleven times.

Alexandra Popp, EURO ambassador for Volkswagen, German national player, and captain of VfL Wolfsburg, said, “Women’s football has made incredible strides in recent years. Volkswagen has supported us from the start, both at club level with VfL Wolfsburg and at national level with the German Football Association, as well as now with the UEFA Women’s EURO. This commitment is truly appreciated in the football world.”

Volkswagen previously made headlines at the 2022 UEFA Women’s EURO with its #KeinFrauenfußball (#NotWomensFootball) campaign, which challenged the language disparity between “football” and “women’s football,” emphasizing the equality and recognition women’s football deserves.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has a global presence and produces vehicles at 28 locations in 12 countries. In 2024, Volkswagen delivered about 4.8 million cars. These include bestsellers such as the Polo, TRoc, T-Cross, Golf, Tiguan and Passat as well as the successful all-electric models of the ID. family. About 170,000 people currently work at Volkswagen around the world. With its ACCELERATE strategy, the company is consistently driving forward its development into the most desirable brand for sustainable mobility.
