Volkswagen Group develops potential female managers in all Group brands and companies

  • CEO Matthias Müller: “Within the Volkswagen Group, we want and indeed need more competence, more experience and more prospects from and for women.”

WOLFSBURG, 31-Jul-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — The Volkswagen Group is committed to employing women in leadership functions and management positions. This is why the Group is developing potential female managers in all Group brands and companies with a view to qualifying them for a management career. A key element in these efforts is the “Mentoring Program Management”. This year, 43 female participants from the Group and six Group brands and companies successfully completed the mentoring program. Matthias Müller, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, and Bernd Osterloh, Chairman of the General and Group Works Council, congratulated all the participants at the closing event.

Müller said: “Within the Volkswagen Group, we want and indeed need more competence, more experience and more prospects from and for women. This also applies to leadership functions and management positions. We are taking this matter seriously and have firmly anchored this objective in ‘TOGETHER – Strategy 2025′. Measures such as the mentoring program lay the foundation for more female candidates to qualify for management positions. For me, this is not only a question of fair treatment; there are sound business reasons for this approach.”

Osterloh said: “More women in management positions may enrich our corporate culture. This is why it is important for us to remove barriers to career development. The mentoring program is a good example. Women often have a different leadership style in which values such as fairness, justice and social competence play a greater role. This is an opportunity that we intend to exploit more effectively at Volkswagen. For example, we also need to consider ways of enabling people to perform management functions on a part-time basis.”

Female candidates for management positions take part in the mentoring program on the personal recommendation of their respective departments. The program focuses on interchange between each participant and an experienced manager who transfers know-how, provides advice and supports the candidate in her career planning. Other components of the program include challenging project work, seminars and information events.

The 43 participants completing the program are employed by the Volkswagen Group and by the brands Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Audi, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, MAN, Bentley and Volkswagen Financial Services AG.
