(PRESS RELEASE) BERKSHIRE, 5-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Vodafone Foundation, in partnership with Vodafone Spain and the Red Cross, has deployed six Instant Networks in response to the severe flooding in Valencia. The deployment focuses on restoring essential connectivity in impacted areas, including Paiporta, Utiel, Montroy, La Eliana, and Benetusser.

A team of five trained volunteers from Vodafone’s Instant Network Emergency Response (INER) programme arrived from Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, and Spain to provide the necessary support. They have been working closely with local authorities and NGOs to set up emergency communication services, including portable mobile networks, Instant Wifi, and charging stations. This rapid response enables communication among emergency responders and affected residents, helping to coordinate rescue and recovery operations.

Vodafone Foundation’s Managing Director, Lisa Felton, emphasized the importance of connectivity in crisis situations, noting that it provides a crucial link for families and emergency teams. Justin Waller, Programme Lead for the INER initiative, commended the volunteers’ efforts in establishing communication hubs at critical locations like city halls and food distribution centers, where coordinated aid efforts are ongoing.

In addition to deploying the emergency networks, Vodafone Foundation donated €80,000 to the Red Cross to support broader relief efforts. The INER programme, active since 2011, has deployed its customized Instant Network technology in over 25 humanitarian crises, providing vital communications infrastructure to communities in need worldwide.
