VINCI Highways Launches Peru’s First Self-Service Automated Toll Booths

(IN BRIEF) VINCI Highways, through Lima Expresa, has launched Peru’s first self-service automated toll booths for digital payments. Following a successful pilot program, 14 additional booths will be deployed, reducing payment times and improving traffic flow at Lima’s toll plazas.

These innovative toll booths, dedicated exclusively to digital payments, enable drivers to pay tolls using contactless digital devices, including bank debit and credit cards.

This initiative follows a successful one-year pilot program conducted by Lima Expresa, which tested the technology on two digital toll booths at the Estadio toll plaza on the Vía Expresa Línea Amarilla. The pilot demonstrated a significant reduction in payment processing time from 15 seconds to just 5 seconds and received high satisfaction ratings from drivers. Throughout the pilot, the number of users steadily increased, indicating positive reception and a growing preference for digital payments.

Encouraged by the pilot’s success, VINCI Highways will expand the service by deploying 14 additional digital toll booths by the end of the year. This expansion will ensure that nearly all Lima Expresa toll plazas feature at least one automated toll lane, greatly enhancing the overall toll payment experience.

The implementation of quicker transaction times aims to reduce congestion at toll plazas, improve traffic flow, and prevent slowdowns in Lima.
