Vattenfall’s onshore wind farm Clashindarroch in Scotland started generating electricity for the first time

Clashindarroch, Scotland, 26-1-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Vattenfall’s onshore wind farm Clashindarroch in Scotland has generated electricity for the first time. Once fully commissioned the wind farm will be capable of meeting the electricity needs of roughly 27,000 households.

Clashindarroch wind farm in Aberdeenshire in north east Scotland is an 18 turbine wind project with an installed capacity of 36.9 MW. On 22 January the onshore wind farm generated electricity for the first time.

Piers Guy, Vattenfall’s UK Country Manager, said:

Turbine supplier Senvion will continue preparing the remaining 17 2.05 MW turbines for operation.

27,000 households

The £62mn Clashindarroch wind farm is Vattenfall’s second operating wind farm in Scotland. The company also operates onshore wind farm Edinbane (41.4 MW) on the Isle of Skye.

In an average year, Clashindarroch will generate over 110,000 megawatt hours of renewable energy. This would be capable of meeting the equivalent annual electricity needs of around 27,000 households.

Vattenfall sees further growth opportunities in Scotland. The total potential installed capacity of all of the company’s current onshore projects that are in operation, construction, planning and pre-planning stages, equates to about 0,5 GW.
