(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 20-Feb-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — FinRavinto 2017 survey revealed that Finns’ salt intake is still too large, with 86% of women and almost all men, 98%, exceed the daily recommended sodium intake. Valio makes it possible to reduce the sodium content in food without compromising on taste with its patented Valio ValSa® milk salt. In 2018, almost 7 million kilos of low-salt Valio ValSa® products were sold in Finland.
Valio ValSa® milk salt is made of minerals that occur naturally in milk, which contains almost 80% less sodium compared to regular table salt. Valio ValSa® milk salt is Valio’s solution to reduce salt in cheeses and spreadables. Valio introduced the first Valio ValSa® milk salt products in 2016. Since then Valio has released low-salt versions of Valio Polar®, Valio Oltermanni® cheeses and Valio Oivariini® spreads with Valio ValSa® milk salt. Valio Salaneuvos® ValSa® gouda cheese has also been released in February 2019.
Valio wants to tackle Finns’ excess salt intakes, thus the creation of Nutrition Agreement in 2018. Finland helps implement the UN’s sustainable development strategy With the nutrition agreements. Corporate and community commitments are a part of the nation-level work.
Valio is committed to expanding its low-salt Valio ValSa® product selection, with the goal to sell 7 million kilos per year of ValSa® products by at least 2020.
Valio will help consumers make low-salt recipe choices by providing increased nutritional details in Valio Test Kitchen recipes. All Valio Test Kitchen recipes now show the amount of salt per 100 grams. Valio is developing its search functions to make low-salt recipes easier to find in its Finnish webpage.
