Vaisala to deliver eighty (80) Runway Visual Range (RVR) systems and sub-systems for U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

HELSINKI, 26-Jan-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Vaisala has signed a multi-year contract with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to deliver eighty (80) Runway Visual Range (RVR) systems and sub-systems. These systems are being procured to replace aging RVR systems currently in the US National Airspace (NAS) without causing interruptions to existing NAS operations.

The RVR system provides a calculated estimate of the distance a pilot can see down a runway. Low visibility weather conditions (e.g., fog, rain, snow, etc.) have the most impact on RVR, but ambient light levels and runway light settings are also an important part of the equation.

The five year contract with a three year base term calls for production and delivery of RVR systems and sub-systems. In addition to the delivery of the equipment, Vaisala will provide program management, configuration management, systems engineering, system test and evaluation and engineering services.
