Vaisala Launches DMP370 Intrinsically Safe Dew Point Instrument for Hydrogen, Biomethane and Hazardous Industrial Gas Applications

Vaisala Launches DMP370 Intrinsically Safe Dew Point Instrument for Hydrogen, Biomethane and Hazardous Industrial Gas Applications

(IN BRIEF) Vaisala has launched the DMP370 Intrinsically Safe Dew Point Instrument, its first solution to bring the company’s DRYCAP® dew point technology into hazardous industrial locations. Introduced at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, the DMP370 combines the DMP37X probe and HMT370EX transmitter into a single intrinsically safe unit designed for continuous moisture measurement in hydrogen, biomethane, natural gas, chemical processing, battery manufacturing and other applications where combustible gases or dust may be present. The instrument uses drift compensation to provide uninterrupted gas-quality data while avoiding measurement gaps associated with some alternative technologies. It offers a dew point range from -70°C to +10°C Td/f, typical accuracy of ±2°C, operation from -40°C to +60°C and pressure capability up to 40 bar absolute. Certifications include ATEX and IECEx for use up to Zone 0/20 and FM approval for hazardous locations in the United States and Canada. Vaisala plans first deliveries in Q1 2027 as industrial hydrogen and renewable gas markets continue to expand.

(PRESS RELEASE) VANTAA, 15-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Vaisala has launched the DMP370 Intrinsically Safe Dew Point Instrument, extending its DRYCAP® dew point measurement technology into hazardous industrial environments for the first time and targeting growing applications across hydrogen, biomethane, natural gas, chemical processing and other gas infrastructure.

Announced at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, the DMP370 is designed to provide continuous, drift-compensated moisture measurement in locations where combustible gases or dust may be present. The instrument combines Vaisala’s DMP37X probe and HMT370EX transmitter as a single intrinsically safe solution, enabling operators to monitor gas quality without measurement interruptions.

The launch comes as demand for hydrogen and renewable gases continues to expand. Citing the International Energy Agency’s Global Hydrogen Review 2026, Vaisala noted that global hydrogen demand surpassed 100 million tonnes in 2025, with a significant share used in industrial processes where gas quality can directly affect safety, equipment performance and operational reliability.

Moisture measurement is particularly important in hydrogen and other industrial gas applications. Excess moisture can impair fuel-cell performance, reduce process efficiency, shorten equipment lifetime and create operational risks in electrolyzers, pipelines and other gas-processing infrastructure.

Many of these installations are classified as hazardous environments and therefore require measurement equipment designed and certified to prevent ignition.

The DMP370 addresses this requirement through intrinsic safety, with the instrument’s electrical energy limited by design so that it cannot become an ignition source in explosive atmospheres.

Vaisala said conventional moisture measurement in hazardous areas can require additional protective enclosures or installation compromises depending on the application and protection concept. Some technologies can also create gaps in monitoring when measurements are interrupted during sensor regeneration or heating cycles.

By combining intrinsic safety with Vaisala’s DRYCAP dew point sensor and a new drift-compensation solution, the DMP370 is designed to deliver continuous measurement, rapid response and long-term stability without interruptions in gas-quality data.

Antti Heikkilä, Product Line Manager of Industrial Decarbonization at Vaisala, said demand for dependable gas-quality monitoring is increasing as hydrogen and renewable gas projects move from pilot-scale installations toward full industrial deployment.

He said operators increasingly require measurement systems that support process efficiency and safety simultaneously, particularly in hazardous locations. The DMP370 brings Vaisala’s established DRYCAP technology into these environments while enabling uninterrupted dew point measurement where explosion protection is essential.

The instrument is designed for a broad range of hydrogen applications, including production, storage, fuel cells and monitoring of electrolyzer output.

In natural gas and renewable gas infrastructure, potential uses include biogas upgrading to biomethane, grid injection and gas pipeline monitoring.

The DMP370 also targets chemical and industrial processing applications including synthetic fuels such as eSAF, methanol production, pharmaceuticals, electronics manufacturing and oil and gas operations.

Additional applications include battery manufacturing processes where combustible carbon dust may be present, as well as compressed-air and nitrogen systems used for inerting, purge gas and other hazardous-location moisture monitoring requirements.

The DMP370 provides a dew point measurement range of -70°C to +10°C Td/f, with typical measurement accuracy of ±2°C Td/f. It can operate across ambient temperatures from -40°C to +60°C and at absolute pressures of up to 40 bar.

The instrument is intrinsically safe to Ex i requirements and is designed for use in environments up to Zone 0 / 20 under ATEX and IECEx certifications. It is also FM approved for Class I, II and III, Division 1, Groups A through G, T4 for the United States and Canada.

Each unit is supplied with traceable calibration and a certificate.

Vaisala plans to begin the first deliveries of the DMP370 in the first quarter of 2027.

Through the launch, the company is expanding its industrial decarbonization measurement portfolio as hydrogen, biomethane and other low-carbon gas technologies move toward larger-scale deployment and create greater demand for continuous, reliable and explosion-safe monitoring.
