(PRESS RELEASE) ENSCHEDE, 12-Jul-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The University of Twente (UT) and Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) have formalized and expanded their longstanding partnership with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This significant development took place during a special event at Jülich, attended by the Jülich Board of Governors, Jennifer Herek from UT’s Faculty of Applied Sciences (TNW), and Hans Hilgenkamp from Mesa+.

Since their initial collaboration dating back to 1992, UT and FZJ have cooperated informally on various research projects. The MoU marks a transition to a more structured approach, focusing on strategic areas such as education and research. Both institutions aim to broaden their collaboration scope, exploring new avenues of cooperation.

Key components of the MoU include enhancing visibility and partnership through student and staff exchanges, including the establishment of graduate schools accessible to students from both universities. The agreement also promotes extensive collaboration, fostering new initiatives in quantum and brain-inspired information technology, energy and hydrogen technologies, and materials science and nanotechnology.

The MoU signing event in Jülich featured insightful laboratory tours highlighting joint research areas. Looking ahead, UT and FZJ plan to host a summit in Jülich next year to assess progress, strategize future initiatives, and strengthen their collaborative framework.

The strengthened partnership between UT and FZJ underscores their commitment to advancing cutting-edge research and educational opportunities across Europe and beyond.
