University of Kent marks World Mental Health Day with a public event with author and comedian Isabel Losada

The University has organised a public event with author and comedian Isabel Losada on Friday 12 October as part of a series of events to mark World Mental Health Day.

KENT, 11-Oct-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — The event, entitled Life, Happiness and Everything, will see Isabel discuss what she has learnt over the last 20 years in the pursuit of happiness, covering everything from meditation and activism to relationships and creativity.

It will be hosted as an informal mix of stand-up comedy and motivational speaking, and there will also be the chance for the audience to ask questions in an anonymous Q&A session.

The event is taking place in Waterstones, Rose Lane, Canterbury from 18.00 and is free to attend. Those interested in attending are asked to register onlineThe Library has also stocked a copy of Isabel’s book The Battersea Park Road to Enlightenment for people to borrow in conjunction with the event.

The talk is just one of several events taking part in the week organised by the University in which World Mental Health Day takes place on Wednesday 10 October.

On that day there will be a Wellbeing Walk to Whitstable, organised by Mental Health Group UKC and Trekent Rambling, starting at 12:00. More information can be found on the Wellbeing Walk Facebook page.

There will also be an event at 13.00 hosted by the School of Engineering and Digital Arts focused on Mental Health Awareness in Jennison Lecture TheatreThis will focus on areas including an introduction to mental health and wellbeing, how positive wellbeing enhances productivity and performance and tips for encouraging positive mental health. The event will be delivered by EqualEngineers Ltd.

On the same day, there will also be a Pop-Up Wellbeing & Safety Hub staffed by Street Marshalls, Chaplains, Nightline and the Police to help raise awareness around mental health issues. On

Meanwhile, on Thursday 11 October there will be a free film night hosted by the University and Pilgrims Hospice. The film, A Ghost Storyexplores themes of loss and grief and will run from 18.00 at the Grimond Lecture Theatre 3, followed by a post-film discussion. Those interested in attending are asked to register online.
