University of East Anglia opens applications for East Anglian Film Archive (EAFA) Mash-up competition

NORWICH, 30-Mar-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — If you’re a keen amateur film-maker, you’ve the chance to demonstrate your skills and win £250 in this year’s East Anglian Film Archive (EAFA) Mash-up competition.

The archive is owned and run by the University of East Anglia, and the competition is open to novice and experienced film-makers of all ages. This year’s theme is “Today’s the day!” and entrants have from now until 1 September to combine their own footage with material from the archive in a film of between one and five minutes.

“The competition’s a great opportunity for people to showcase their talents and keep our historical material alive by combining newly-filmed footage with scenes from yesteryear,” said Tim Snelson, Media History lecturer at UEA and EAFA director. “In addition to the cash prize, the winning entries will be screened at the Norwich Film Festival, made available to view on our website and added to the archive.”

EAFA was the UK’s first regional film archive and is funded by UEA, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Norfolk County Council. It includes thousands of hours of material, dating from 1896 to the present day, ranging from home movies to advertising films. It also houses BBC East’s and ITV Anglia’s collections.

The competition has two categories, over and under 18, and film-makers will be judged on their creativity and the way they use the archive material as well as their technical skills.
