University of Dundee Hosts Inaugural Green Careers Event to Promote Sustainability in Employment

(IN BRIEF) The University of Dundee is organizing its first-ever Green Careers Event on October 9, aimed at allowing employers to showcase their commitment to environmental sustainability to students and graduates. The event is a response to student demands for greater insight into prospective employers’ sustainable practices. Nine employers will participate, each delivering presentations on how sustainability is integrated into their daily operations. The event is open to students from the University of Dundee, Abertay University, and Dundee & Angus College, providing a platform for students to inquire about potential employers’ environmental commitments and for employers to understand the expectations of future employees.

(PRESS RELEASE) SCOTLAND, 5-Oct-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — The University of Dundee is to host its first Green Careers Event on Monday 9 October, allowing employers to showcase their environmental credentials to students and graduates. The first event of its kind to be hosted by the University’s Careers Service, it has been established following increasing calls from students to learn more about prospective employers’ commitment to sustainable work practices.

“This event has been driven by our students,” said Ruth O’Riordan, Head of Careers Services at the University.

“We are all concerned about our environment and how we can make our way of life more sustainable, and our students want to know that potential employers are equally committed to that cause.

“From small, independent businesses to large multinationals, every employer has a part to play. It is a hugely emotive issue and for some students and graduates a company’s failure to embrace positive change could mean the difference between talent accepting a job or looking elsewhere.”

The Green Careers Event will showcase nine employers who will highlight how sustainability plays a part in their day-to-day operations. Each will deliver a ten-minute presentation before accepting questions from the student audience.

The event is open to all University of Dundee students, as well as those from Abertay University and Dundee & Angus College.

“There are so many factors that students and graduates consider when determining their career path,” added Ruth.

“There are a number of personal factors that individuals consider when choosing a career and increasingly the environmental credentials of employers are coming under increasing scrutiny from prospective recruits.

“An event like this is a great opportunity for our students to ask questions, but also for employers to hear what the workforce of tomorrow expects of them.”

The University of Dundee Green Careers Event takes place in the University’s Dalhousie Building, Old Hawkhill, on Monday 9 October, 1-4pm. Spaces can be reserved online.
