UNISON Takes 11,927 sq ft at Co-op’s One Angel Square as Building Expands Flexible Workspace Model

(IN BRIEF) Co-op has agreed a sublet with UNISON at One Angel Square, advancing its multi-tenancy, hybrid-work strategy while retaining the site as its headquarters. Marketed by Avison Young, the building adds UNISON on a 12th-floor, 11,927 sq ft lease and continues to offer additional space to let. The deal highlights One Angel Square’s sustainability credentials, modern amenities and flexibility, with Co-op emphasising efficient use of space and a collaborative workplace, and UNISON citing strong alignment on values and a fit-for-purpose office environment.

(PRESS RELEASE) MANCHESTER, 29-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Co-op has signed a sublet agreement with UNISON, the UK’s largest trade union, which will relocate to One Angel Square (1AS), Manchester in early 2026. The move advances Co-op’s plan to optimise its hybrid workplace while keeping 1AS as the Group’s support centre and headquarters, now operating as a high-quality multi-tenancy hub with additional floors available.

Working with commercial real estate advisors Avison Young, Co-op has marketed surplus space at 1AS to future-proof the building and align it with modern, flexible ways of working. The latest deal secures 11,927 sq ft on the 12th floor for UNISON and underscores the building’s appeal as a prime, sustainable office location.

Heather Thomas, Group Property & Sustainability Director at Co-op, said the agreement reflects an intentional approach to space efficiency and community: “As ways of working evolve, we’re using our workspace more efficiently while remaining proudly based in Manchester. Welcoming UNISON is a positive step in planning for the building’s future. We’re open to further tenants and committed to keeping this fantastic building a collaborative, thriving place to work.”

Lynne Morris, UNISON North West regional secretary, commented: “We’re delighted to be moving into One Angel Square. It’s a modern, flexible environment that supports our new ways of working, and being in a building that’s home to Co-op—an organisation that shares our values of fairness and social responsibility—is a great fit.”

Rupert Barron, Director at Avison Young, added: “We were pleased to support Co-op in securing a sublease for 11,927 sq ft on the 12th floor. One Angel Square’s sustainability credentials, amenities and flexibility reinforce its status as one of Manchester’s most desirable office locations.”

Further sublet opportunities are available at One Angel Square, with office suites ranging from 6,717 sq ft to 62,033 sq ft. Enquiries can be directed to Avison Young at rupert.barron@avisonyoung.com.
