TÜV Rheinland and Industry Partners Launch Esports Display Experience Ecosystem Initiative

(IN BRIEF) TÜV Rheinland has launched its Native Gaming Performance Display Standard at ChinaJoy 2026, introducing a new framework for evaluating esports displays based on both technical performance and real gaming experience. The standard includes two complementary certification systems: Native Gaming Performance, which verifies whether advertised specifications are achieved through genuine native capabilities, and Comprehensive Human-Factors Gaming Experience, which assesses dynamic performance, image quality and visual comfort across different gaming scenarios. The company also introduced the Esports Display Experience Ecosystem Initiative with partners across the display value chain, including semiconductor, panel, product development, manufacturing and retail organisations. The initiative aims to improve transparency in esports display evaluation, help consumers make better purchasing decisions and support manufacturers in developing products that reflect real user needs.

(PRESS RELEASE) COLOGNE, 12-Aug-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — TÜV Rheinland has launched its Native Gaming Performance Display Standard at the 23rd China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference, known as ChinaJoy 2026.

The launch took place on 31 July and was accompanied by the introduction of the Esports Display Experience Ecosystem Initiative, developed in collaboration with partners across the display value chain.

The new standard establishes a dual-track evaluation framework for esports displays.

It combines verification of native esports performance with a human-factors-based assessment of user experience, creating a broader benchmark that considers both measurable product performance and real-world gaming experience.

From technical specifications to actual gaming performance

TÜV Rheinland said the esports display market is moving beyond competition based only on individual hardware specifications.

While higher refresh rates and shorter advertised response times remain important indicators, they do not always guarantee clearer visuals, stable gameplay or a better overall user experience.

The company noted that some advertised performance improvements may depend on overclocking, special operating modes or compromises that can affect image quality or system stability.

As a result, users may experience performance that does not fully match marketing claims.

TÜV Rheinland said this has created a need for a transparent and rigorous evaluation system that assesses both the authenticity of product specifications and the actual gaming experience delivered to users.

Jay Yang, Global Senior Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Electrical, said authenticity, accuracy and detail define the company’s approach to evaluating esports displays.

He said authenticity means validating true native esports performance and confirming that product specifications represent genuine and sustainable capabilities.

Accuracy, he added, refers to the development of a scientific assessment system based on human factors research to evaluate gaming experience more precisely.

Detail reflects a comprehensive analysis of dynamic performance, image quality and visual comfort across different gaming scenarios.

Yang said the framework and TÜV Rheinland certification marks are intended to help consumers make informed purchasing decisions while supporting manufacturers in developing technologies that respond to real user needs.

Dual-track certification framework

TÜV Rheinland’s Native Gaming Performance Display Standard consists of two complementary certification systems: Native Gaming Performance and Comprehensive Human-Factors Gaming Experience.

The Native Gaming Performance Standard focuses on validating authentic display performance.

Through technical testing and documentation review, it verifies whether advertised specifications are achieved through a display’s inherent and sustainable capabilities, rather than through temporary enhancement methods such as overclocking.

The standard clearly distinguishes between native performance, factory overclocking and dual-mode operating conditions.

This is intended to ensure that claims relating to resolution, refresh rate and related performance indicators are measurable, verifiable and traceable.

The Comprehensive Human-Factors Gaming Experience Standard focuses on accuracy and detail.

It combines objective testing with human factors research to assess dynamic performance, image quality and visual comfort across multiple gaming scenarios.

These scenarios include competitive games that require high clarity and responsiveness, immersive games that place greater emphasis on visual quality and atmosphere, and hybrid games that require a balanced overall display experience.

By using a multidimensional approach, the framework aims to prevent individual headline specifications from overshadowing other important performance factors such as image quality, stability and visual comfort.

Industry initiative for esports display evaluation

To support wider adoption of standardised evaluation criteria, TÜV Rheinland joined industry stakeholders in launching the Esports Display Experience Ecosystem Initiative.

The initiative is intended to promote the use of human factors research and technical standards across the display ecosystem.

Its scope includes semiconductor design, panel manufacturing, product development, production, retail and consumer education.

Founding members include organisations and companies from key parts of the industry, including the China National Institute of Standardization, Lenovo Group, TCL CSOT, HKC Corporation Limited, BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd, ANTGAMER, TPV Technology Limited, Realtek Semiconductor, MediaTek Inc., Foxconn Technology Group Co., Ltd and Wistron.

Together, TÜV Rheinland and its partners aim to establish a more transparent and unified framework for evaluating esports display performance and user experience.

Looking ahead, TÜV Rheinland said it will continue applying human factors research and traceable testing methods to support innovation driven by genuine user needs.

Through the Esports Display Experience Ecosystem Initiative, partners across the display value chain will promote adoption of the new standard and certification framework.

The TÜV Rheinland Native Gaming Performance Certification Mark and Gaming Feature Verification Label are intended to help consumers identify esports display products that deliver clear visuals, high image quality, stable performance and visual comfort.

TÜV Rheinland said these efforts are designed to strengthen transparency, improve consumer trust and support high-quality development across the esports display industry.
