TU/e: Student team InMotion clocked the fastest time ever with an electric car on the TT Circuit Assen

For the third time student team InMotion claimed an electric lap record on a famous circuit. After Zandvoort and Zolder the students this time clocked the fastest time ever with an electric car on the TT Circuit Assen, in 1:43.059. 

EINDHOVEN, 23-Jul-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Behind the wheel of the IM/e was Jeroen Mul, a Dutch race driver who competes for Lamborghini in the international GT championship for sports cars. The attempt took place Saturday afternoon, as part of the event ‘Experience Electric Day’. The team also did two demos with their car on the TT Circuit.

It is the third time now that InMotion is setting a record. Last year in June, they shattered the electric lap record on Circuit Zandvoort with an astonishing 16 seconds, with Beitske Visser as driver. A month later, the IM/e claimed the title of fastest electric car at Circuit Zolder. With no less than 19 seconds, Xavier Maassen beat the previous record with the IM/e and took back the record he previously lost at Zolder.

24 hours of Le Mans

InMotion is a team consisting of students from TU/e and Fontys who are working towards one goal: improving electric mobility. By setting electric lap records the students hope to get more attention for their project. Their ambition is to compete in the 24 hours of Le Mans with a fully electric race car. By doing that, InMotion shows that electric driving is not only fast, but also reliable for longer distances.

The class they are aiming for in the 24 hours of Le Mans, is the Garage 56. This class allows one car per year to participate, this car has no technical restrictions. Since this is quite a challenge, they choose to reach this goal with steps. That’s why the IM/e was built, an electric formula race car. In September the team will reveal the next milestone on their ‘Road to Le Mans’.
