TruckCharge: Daimler Truck’s Pioneering Step to Power Europe’s Electric Freight Future

Daimler Truck bündelt Angebote rund um E-Infrastruktur und Laden in Europa unter neuer Marke TruckCharge
Daimler Truck bundles e-infrastructure and charging services in Europe under new TruckCharge brand

(IN BRIEF) Daimler Truck is set to revolutionize electric truck charging in Europe with its new TruckCharge brand, which introduces a semi-public charging network designed to bridge the existing gap in infrastructure. The network will allow depot owners to offer their unused charging stations to external users, generating extra revenue and optimizing asset utilization. Integrated with features for planning, booking, reservation, and payment, the initiative aims to install over 3,000 fast charging points by 2030—substantially increasing the current number of high-capacity chargers. Martin Hink from Mercedes-Benz Trucks highlighted the concept’s role in closing the critical gap in charging facilities, leveraging an extensive dealer network for rapid deployment. TruckCharge is designed to complement public charging networks, offering fleet operators cost-effective, accessible charging solutions while consolidating Daimler Truck’s range of e-infrastructure services into a single comprehensive offering.

(PRESS RELEASE) LEINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN, 28-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Daimler Truck is embarking on an ambitious initiative to reshape Europe’s electric truck charging landscape under its new TruckCharge brand. The company is developing a semi-public charging network that will expand cost-efficient charging options for battery-electric truck operators. This innovative system will allow depot owners to monetize their idle charging facilities by opening them up to external users, thereby ensuring higher utilization of their infrastructure. With an integrated solution that covers planning, booking, reservation, and payment processes, TruckCharge promises significant cost benefits and a simplified experience for fleet operators.

The initiative comes at a crucial time when the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has highlighted the need for around 35,000 fast charging points of 800 kW output or more by 2030—a stark contrast to the current situation, where fewer than 1,000 such points exist for heavy commercial vehicles. In response, Daimler Truck is targeting the installation of over 3,000 fast charging points across Europe by 2030. Martin Hink, Head of eMobility/H2 Business Solutions at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, emphasized, “With our TruckCharge concept for semi-public charging, we are aiming to close a large gap in the charging infrastructure for trucks.” Leveraging a network of more than 1,000 dealers across Europe, the company is well-positioned to rapidly roll out this network.

TruckCharge will serve as an intermediary between site operators and fleet managers. By allowing depot owners to offer their charging stations during periods of low usage, the concept not only helps in generating additional revenue and faster investment recovery but also provides fleet operators with more attractive and readily accessible charging options compared to conventional public charging stations. Additionally, the semi-public network is designed to complement existing public charging facilities—such as those operated by Milence and supported through partnerships with UTA Edenred—ensuring a broader, more flexible charging infrastructure.

In uniting its various e-infrastructure services—from consulting and energy generation to operational management—under the TruckCharge umbrella, Daimler Truck is offering a comprehensive package that caters to truck fleet operators and industrial enterprises regardless of the truck brand. This holistic approach is intended to accelerate the adoption of battery-electric trucks and support the rapid development of climate-neutral road freight transport.
