Trinity College Dublin and University of Liverpool partner to facilitate student mobility programmes between both universities and with University of Liverpool’s partner institution in China

DUBLIN, 11-6-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Trinity College Dublin and the University of Liverpool, have agreed a strategic partnership that will facilitate student mobility programmes between both universities as well as with the University of Liverpool’s partner institution in China, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU).

It will also build on strong existing relations between the Irish Studies programmes at both institutions, as well as promoting wider research collaborations, student innovation, employability and entrepreneurship.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, Professor Sir Howard Newby and the Provost of Trinity College, Dr Patrick Prendergast signed a Memorandum of Understanding last Friday [May 30th]. On the occasion of the signing, Trinity Provost, Dr Prendergast said:

We are delighted to be joining the University of Liverpool promoting student mobility between both universities and with its Chinese partner institution, XJTLU. The University of Liverpool is also one of the world’s leading institutions for the research and teaching of Irish Studies and we look forward to further collaboration in this area. Building on our existing strong links and complementary strengths, we will work together to provide educational programmes and opportunities for our students in Ireland and internationally.”

Welcoming the new partnership, University of Liverpool Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Howard Newby, said: “This exciting collaboration will facilitate wonderful opportunities for research partnerships and student and staff exchanges between both universities, as well as our partner institutions in China, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.”

The strategic partnership will explore opportunities for co-taught courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as joint PhD supervision.

Both universities will seek to cooperate in the areas of student innovation, employability and entrepreneurship, encouraging participation of University of Liverpool students in the Trinity’s Innovation Academy programme. There will also be collaboration between both universities’ Careers Services with a view to sharing expertise and widening student placement opportunities.
