TotalEnergies and Saint-Gobain Forge Renewable Energy Partnership to Drive Decarbonization in French Industry

(IN BRIEF) TotalEnergies has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Saint-Gobain to supply renewable electricity to its facilities in France, starting in January 2026. This contract will provide 875 GWh of renewable energy over five years, sourced from TotalEnergies’ wind and solar plants across the country. The agreement aims to support both companies’ commitments to decarbonization, building on a prior partnership for biomethane supply. TotalEnergies boasts a renewable portfolio exceeding 2 GW, preventing 800,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. Saint-Gobain aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with this agreement helping to ensure that 30% of its electricity comes from renewable sources by 2027.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 9-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions in the industrial sector, TotalEnergies has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Saint-Gobain, ensuring the supply of renewable electricity to the company’s facilities in France. This agreement, set to commence in January 2026, encompasses a total of 875 GWh over five years.

Under the terms of this agreement, TotalEnergies will deliver a reliable baseload supply of electricity, along with guarantees of origin, sourced from its extensive network of wind and solar energy facilities located in northeastern and southern France, as well as the Loire Valley.

This latest contract builds upon a previous collaboration initiated in June 2023, when TotalEnergies began supplying biomethane produced at its BioBéarn facility to Saint-Gobain.

Sophie Chevalier, Vice President of Flexible Power & Integration at TotalEnergies, expressed enthusiasm about the new partnership: “We are thrilled to deepen our collaboration with Saint-Gobain, reflecting our mutual commitment to decarbonizing French industry. This agreement highlights our capability to deliver tailored electricity solutions while ensuring the green credentials of the power supplied. With a renewable energy portfolio exceeding 2 GW in France, TotalEnergies is proud to help prevent approximately 800,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year, making our offerings particularly compelling for our clients.”

Swaroop Srinath, Energy Purchasing Director for Saint-Gobain, emphasized the company’s dedication to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. “Decarbonizing our production processes is critical to fulfilling our sustainability goals. This PPA with TotalEnergies represents a vital advancement towards that objective, providing us with a consistent supply of renewable electricity for our industrial operations. By 2027, we aim for 30% of our electricity consumption in France to come from renewable sources, supported by this agreement and others we’ve established in the region,” he stated.

This PPA with Saint-Gobain follows TotalEnergies’ successful agreements with major companies such as Air Liquide, Amazon, LyondellBasell, Merck, Microsoft, Orange, and Sasol, showcasing TotalEnergies’ ability to create innovative solutions tailored to meet the diverse decarbonization needs of its global clientele.
