Three TU Delft disciplines listed in the Times Higher Education subject rankings

Delft, The Netherlands, 03-Oct-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Three TU Delft disciplines are in the THE subject rankings, the Times Higher Education rankings which list the 100 best universities for certain disciplines.

TU Delft currently occupies 20th place in the Engineering & Technology rankings (down one place from 19th last year).
For Physical Sciences, TU Delft has risen from 74th place in 2015 to 58th place.
In the new Computer Sciences rankings, TU Delft currently occupies 35th place.

University rankings are often consulted by international students and scientists who want to study or work abroad.

General ranking

Every year, THE compiles a general Times Higher Education World Ranking which compares around 980 universities worldwide, as well as a number of rankings for various academic disciplines. The THE Ranking compares universities worldwide using five indicators: research, teaching, citations, international outlook and industry income. The methodology used for the rankings has been adjusted several times through the years. In addition to the varying performance of the universities, these adjustments also lead to changes in the rankings.

The general ranking was published in mid-September, with TU Delft in 59th place, up 6 places from last year. In seven years, TU Delft has climbed from 151th place in 2010 to 59th place this year.

Rankings

Alongside the Shanghai and QS rankings, the THE Ranking is one of the three leading international university rankings. Each of these rankings is compiled using a slightly different methodology, each with its particular advantages and limitations. In the QS Ranking, which was published two weeks ago, TU Delft rose two places, from 64th to 62nd.
