8-11-2012 — /europawire.eu/ — The University of Dundee’s Winter Graduation takes place on Wednesday, 14th November, when more than 500 students will be joined by family and friends to celebrate their achievements.

Taking place at Caird Hall over two ceremonies, the Graduation will also see Honorary Degrees bestowed upon Sir Nicholas Wright, an esteemed academic who has greatly furthered knowledge of stem cell biology, and Jamie Byng, publisher and managing director of Canongate Books.

Graduands spanning a wide range of disciplines will receive their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas. The winter celebrations are held to allow students whose courses finish after the traditional summer graduation in late June to receive their awards as soon as possible after successfully completing their studies.

Professor Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, congratulated all graduating students on their achievements.

“Winter Graduation has established a distinct feel that combines the best of tradition with the joy of the occasion,” he said. “It is always a source of pride and delight to welcome students and their families here for graduation, which is a major milestone in anyone’s life.

“This will be a day to remember for graduands and their guests, and it is also one that will help to inspire current students to excel academically as they experience the very special atmosphere that surrounds graduation.”

The morning ceremony, taking place at 10am, will see students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) and College of Art, Science and Engineering (CASE) receive their awards. College of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing (CMDN), College of Life Sciences (CLS) and additional CASS students will graduate in the afternoon ceremony, beginning at 2.30pm.

After the ceremonies, the Winter Graduation Celebration takes place in Dundee University Students Association (DUSA) from 4-8pm with a programme of entertainment, including live music, provided for graduates and guests.

Tickets, which are free for graduands and cost £11 each for guests, are available by visiting Registry website, calling 01382 385390 or emailing graduation@dundee.ac.uk.
