The European Parliament boasts more than 1 million Facebook page fans

One million citizens from every corner of Europe and beyond now follow the European Parliament on Facebook, making our page the biggest Facebook page of any of the European institutions. But how did it all begin and what is it about?

Brussels, Strasbourg, 30-10-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — The Parliament’s page was launched ahead of the 2009 European elections and since then the number of fans has never stopped growing. With one million fans we can potentially reach up 135 million people through our fans sharing our content with their friends. The page is updated several times each day and new features are added regularly. Fans can not only like, comment and share the posts, but they can also debate live with MEPs on current topics during our frequent chats.

Competitions are also a fixture on our page, the most recent being the “editor for a day” one with the winners writing posts on the page during the November plenary. Last year winners of another competition we organised were invited to the EU Nobel Peace Prize festivities in Oslo and Strasbourg.

One million is a great landmark for us and it could not have been achieved without you, the people who follow our account, so thank you!
