  • Thales to deploy latest-generation ticketing system for all public transport systems in Bordeaux area.
  • 79 stations to be equipped by Thales for Phase III of the Delhi metro.
  • Thales systems in over 100 cities in the world handle more than 50 million transactions a day.

Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, 5-12-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Thales revenue collection solutions have been selected for the urban transit systems in Bordeaux and Delhi.

THE BORDEAUX CONTRACT IS THALES’S FIRST MAJOR AWARD FOR AN ENTIRELY CONTACTLESS TICKETING SYSTEM IN FRANCE.

The Thales solution was selected by the Bordeaux Urban Community (Communauté urbaine de Bordeaux – Cub) after an international bidding process, and signals Thales’s comeback on the French market. The company will deploy a latest-generation ticketing and revenue collection solution for all of Bordeaux’s public transport systems (tram, bus, riverboats and park + ride stations), replacing existing systems with a high-performance, scalable revenue collection solution that accepts multiple fare media (smartcards, contactless tickets, mobile phones, NFC smartphones, etc.) and ensures interoperability across all modes of transport.

For this programme, Thales has designed an all-contactless ticketing and revenue collection solution and will supply all the hardware and software required to operate the entire system. The Cub has signed a ten-year contract with Thales, with entry into service scheduled for February 2017.

Thales revenue collection systems have been deployed in more than 40 cities around the world. The Bordeaux contract is a strategic milestone that underscores the company’s ability to build on this unique experience and leverage its consistent investments in the new TransCity line of ticketing and revenue collection systems to become a major player in the French market.

DELHI: 79 NEW METRO STATIONS TO BE EQUIPPED BY THALES

Thales has been selected for Phase III of the Delhi metro, which includes 79 new stations and 140 km of new metro lines. The company will provide a complete automatic fare collection system as well as ticketing equipment.

Thales has been a trusted partner on the Delhi metro system for more than 12 years. Its fare collection solutions have been selected for lines 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8, corresponding to Phases I and II of the new metro system. Thales fare collection systems are helping to make public transport more attractive to Delhi’s citizens and reduce congestion in an urban area where road traffic is particularly dense.

Thales is a global player in providing solutions and services for revenue collection systems, notably for public transportation operators, but equally in the road sector (tolls and parking). Every day over 50 million transactions go through Thales systems, installed in over 100 cities in the world. In total, Thales systems deal with $20 billion worth of transactions daily. The facility in Brétigny, near Paris, is Thales’s global competence centre for ticketing and revenue collection activities.
