Thales Launches Naval DRAKON to Enhance Secure Communication Across Modern Naval Operations

(IN BRIEF) Thales has introduced Naval DRAKON, a cybersecure communication solution designed to meet modern naval challenges by connecting diverse platforms in complex operations. Naval DRAKON integrates multiple communication systems, allowing naval forces to manage their electromagnetic presence and adapt to mission needs. Drawing from Thales’s expertise in critical systems, the solution enhances communication resilience and flexibility across naval and unmanned platforms, with deployments planned for the Jacques Chevallier class tankers, FDI frigates, and UK’s T31 frigates.

(PRESS RELEASE) LA DÉFENSE, 4-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — As the demand for coordinated naval operations grows amid complex global threats, Thales has launched Naval DRAKON, an advanced, cybersecure connectivity solution designed to support modern naval missions with seamless, interoperable communication. Naval DRAKON integrates a range of military and commercial communications systems—satellite, HF, V/UHF, and more—allowing naval forces to manage their electromagnetic footprint at sea, prioritize communication needs based on mission urgency, and adjust for data rate, resilience, and latency.

Thales’s Vice President of Networks and Infrastructure Systems, Alexandre Bottero, emphasized the breakthrough nature of Naval DRAKON, which enables secure and reliable communications across diverse platforms engaged in collaborative combat, including surface ships, submarines, aircraft, and unmanned systems.

Building on Thales’s longstanding expertise in critical systems integration and an impressive track record with over 400 naval platforms globally, Naval DRAKON is the maritime version of Thales’s DRAKON solution for land forces. This open-architecture solution incorporates the latest in high-data-rate and multi-orbit satcom technology, as well as advanced capabilities like spectrum management, decision support, and smart maintenance.

Naval DRAKON will be installed on the Jacques Chevallier class fleet replenishment tankers for France, the FDI frigates for France and Greece, and the UK’s T31 frigates. This integration marks a new phase in Thales’s contribution to advanced naval fleet communication and interoperability, helping naval forces securely coordinate in complex, multi-platform operations.
