Telekom Slovenije upgrades its 4th generation mobile network with 4G+ technology; expands fiber optics network

LJUBLJANA, 15-Jan-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Telekom Slovenije continues to upgrade the capabilities and performance of its fixed and mobile networks. This year Telekom Slovenije began actively upgrading its 4th generation mobile network with 4G+ technology (LTE-Advanced), and continues with the expansion of its fiber optics network, while at the start of next year it will launch a solution that will bring higher internet speeds to those users who are connected to broadband services over copper lines, and also have LTE/4G mobile network coverage.

Telekom Slovenije will make it possible for users to simultaneously use the copper (xDSL) and the LTE/4G mobile network, and such a combined data transfer over a so-called hybrid access will provide an even better user experience when using the internet and watching television at the same time. “This solution is a logical next step in the development of a unified network that has been underway for the past few years, as the technological development provides increasing network convergence. Through gradual integration of networks and different technologies into a unified infrastructure that will provide access to services through any technology, wired or wireless, we make it possible for our users to use the latest communication services and an excellent user experience, regardless of the technology operating in the background,” emphasizes Matjaž Pogačnik, Access Network Director at Telekom Slovenije.

Telekom Slovenije will introduce details of the commercial offer in January 2018, while transfer speeds available to individual users will be limited to realistically achievable speeds that do not overburden the mobile network. Users of Top Trio plans who opt for hybrid access as an extra service will receive a special modem with a SIM card and the IPTV BOX S set-top box.

Telekom Slovenije’s experts introduced an in-house-developed technological solution that provides internet, fixed telephone service, and TV over the LTE/4G mobile network already in May 2015. Telekom Slovenije provides the solution to users in areas where it is not possible to set up a fixed connection, but LTE/4G mobile coverage is available.
