Telefónica Tech Integrates Thales eSIM Technology Into Kite Platform for Multi-Operator IoT Deployments

(IN BRIEF) Telefónica Tech and Thales have launched a new eSIM solution based on the GSMA SGP.32 standard to simplify global IoT connectivity. The solution allows organisations to use a single eSIM card with profiles from multiple operators, making it easier to switch connectivity providers and deploy connected devices across several countries. Thales’ eSIM technology integrates directly with Kite, Telefónica’s managed IoT connectivity platform. This enables customers to centrally manage subscriptions, choose the active operator in each region and view global connectivity from one platform. Kite can integrate both Telefónica Group operators and third-party operators, supporting large-scale international IoT deployments. The solution positions Telefónica as both a connectivity provider and an orchestrator of multi-operator IoT connectivity, while Thales contributes its eSIM, cybersecurity and remote profile management expertise.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 9-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Telefónica, through Telefónica Tech, has launched a new eSIM solution in collaboration with Thales, designed to make global IoT connectivity easier to deploy, manage and scale across multiple markets.

The solution is based on the GSMA SGP.32 standard and enables organisations to use a single eSIM card with profiles from multiple operators. This gives customers greater flexibility when managing connected devices across different geographies and allows them to switch connectivity providers more quickly according to operational needs.

Thales’ eSIM technology is integrated natively with Kite, Telefónica’s managed IoT connectivity platform. Through this integration, customers can centrally select the active operator for a specific geographic area, manage subscriptions from a unified environment and access a complete view of their global connectivity.

Kite can integrate connectivity from both Telefónica Group operators and third-party operators, consolidating information and control into one platform. This capability supports large-scale IoT operations and reduces the complexity usually associated with managing multiple operators across international deployments.

With the new solution, Telefónica is strengthening its role not only as a connectivity provider but also as an orchestration partner for global IoT projects. Thanks to Thales’ technology and remote profile management expertise, operator profiles can be downloaded quickly without the need for prior integrations between the different operators involved.

This approach helps companies deploy IoT devices across multiple countries more efficiently, reducing operational time, removing technical barriers and improving flexibility for international projects. Telefónica said customers can manage their operations independently without requiring additional specialist technical resources, as the orchestration capabilities are already integrated into its systems.

Juan José González Menaya, Head of IoT Connectivity at Telefónica Tech, said the launch reflects Telefónica’s continued effort to evolve its connectivity portfolio with advanced services for an increasingly demanding IoT market.

“At Telefónica, in line with our purpose of becoming the best gateway to digital technologies, we continue to evolve our connectivity portfolio with the most innovative services on the market,” said González Menaya. “With this new eSIM solution, we are strengthening our commitment to offering advanced, global and flexible connectivity that can adapt to the challenges of an increasingly demanding IoT market. Customers will be able to manage their operations with complete autonomy, without the need for specialist resources, and with the assurance that all orchestration capabilities are fully integrated into our systems.”

Eva Rudin, Executive Vice President of Mobile Connectivity Solutions at Thales, said the partnership supports the next stage of secure IoT adoption worldwide.

“We are proud to support Telefónica in driving the next phase of secure IoT adoption worldwide,” said Rudin. “By combining our cybersecurity expertise and leadership in eSIM with Telefónica’s strong IoT ecosystem, we enable companies to deploy and manage connected devices with confidence, at scale, and in full compliance with international standards.”

Through the launch, Telefónica and Thales are expanding their cooperation in next-generation connectivity. The companies aim to support a more interoperable and agile IoT ecosystem capable of serving multi-operator scenarios and global connected-device deployments.
