Swisscom Welcomes 232 New Apprentices in Record IT Recruitment Year

(IN BRIEF) Swisscom has welcomed 232 new apprentices, with a record 97 starting IT apprenticeships. To support these apprentices, Swisscom is piloting a nine-month onboarding program. Additionally, nine students are beginning a bachelor’s degree in IT with integrated practice. Swisscom is training around 800 apprentices in total across various disciplines. This summer, 254 apprentices completed their training with a 98.5% pass rate, and half have been hired by Swisscom. Swisscom’s modular apprenticeship approach allows apprentices to design their pathways, promoting independence and diverse learning experiences.

(PRESS RELEASE) BERN, 2-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Swisscom is celebrating the start of vocational training for 232 young individuals, marking a significant milestone as 97 of them embark on IT apprenticeships—the highest number ever. To support these new IT apprentices, Swisscom is piloting a nine-month onboarding program aimed at preparing them for the demanding apprenticeship ahead. Additionally, nine students are beginning a bachelor’s degree in IT with integrated practice.

Swisscom is committed to nurturing young talent, training around 800 apprentices across various disciplines. This year, 223 apprentices will start their training in fields such as IT, Interactive Media Design, Mediamatics, Commercial Education, Retailing Specialist, and Digital Business Development. At subsidiary cablex, 21 apprentices will begin training in Network Electrician, Electrician, and Assembly Electrician specialties.

The new onboarding program, launching this August for 34 apprentices in Bern and Zurich, aims to equip IT apprentices with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel from the start. Marc Marthaler, Head of Next Generation, highlighted the strategic decision to increase IT apprenticeship positions to meet skilled labor demands. Klementina Pejic, Head of Human Resources, welcomed the new apprentices, emphasizing their importance to Swisscom’s future and the enriching impact of their fresh perspectives.

This summer also saw 254 apprentices and four students successfully complete their training at Swisscom, with a pass rate of 98.5%. Approximately half of the qualified trainees have been offered positions within the company.

Swisscom’s modular apprenticeship approach allows apprentices and degree students to design their own pathways by applying for various projects posted on an internal marketplace. This system provides a diverse learning experience, fostering independence and offering insights into different business areas.
