Sweden’s Traffic Future Takes Shape with Kapsch TrafficCom’s ÖTS3 Breakthrough

(IN BRIEF) Kapsch TrafficCom and Trafikverket have advanced the ÖTS3 project, replacing the ÖTS2 system with the innovative EcoTrafiX™ solution to manage approximately 360 traffic signals across Sweden. Key milestones include the successful Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), which tested system integration and functionality, and the Site Acceptance Test (SAT), which verified performance in real-world conditions. The project spans delivery and testing, system implementation, and long-term maintenance, aiming to boost efficiency and reliability while aligning with Nordic standards. This partnership positions Sweden as a trailblazer in traffic management technology.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 1-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Kapsch TrafficCom, in partnership with Sweden’s Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration), has made remarkable strides in the ÖTS3 project, advancing the nation toward a cutting-edge traffic signal management framework. The project recently achieved a major breakthrough with the successful execution of both the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and the Site Acceptance Test (SAT), marking a pivotal moment in its development. This initiative, designed to supersede the older ÖTS2 system, incorporates Kapsch TrafficCom’s groundbreaking EcoTrafiX™ technology. The new system enhances Trafikverket’s capacity to oversee and regulate around 360 traffic signals across Sweden, delivering improved efficiency and dependability in traffic operations.

Tailored to meet Nordic requirements, the EcoTrafiX™ solution integrates smoothly with Sweden’s existing infrastructure while establishing elevated standards for traffic signal oversight and performance. The completion of the FAT and SAT phases underscores the reliability of Kapsch TrafficCom’s technology. During the FAT, the system underwent rigorous testing of its features, including user administration and compatibility with Trafikverket’s National Transport Support System. The SAT, conducted in real-world settings, validated the system’s effectiveness through spontaneous tests, customer-driven requests, and thorough performance assessments.

The ÖTS3 project unfolds in three primary stages: the first involves detailed project oversight, installation, activation, and integration with Trafikverket’s operational platforms; the second focuses on configuring and rolling out the system across all traffic signal networks to ensure full functionality; and the third provides sustained operation, proactive maintenance, and technical assistance for at least four years, with options for extensions. This collaboration between Kapsch TrafficCom and Trafikverket signifies a leap forward in traffic management innovation, cementing Sweden’s role as a leader in leveraging technology to enhance transportation infrastructure.
