(IN BRIEF) Stadler’s EURO6000 electric locomotive has received authorisation to operate in Belgium, following approval for Luxembourg at the end of 2025. The milestone expands the locomotive’s cross-border operating footprint in Western Europe and strengthens its role on the North Sea–Mediterranean Corridor. More than 100 EURO6000 locomotives are already in service, operating international freight routes between France and Spain. With six axles, 6 MW of power and strong tractive effort, the locomotive can haul freight trains of more than 2,000 tonnes on demanding gradients in single-locomotive operation. The new approvals enable uninterrupted freight flows between Barcelona and Antwerp, supporting sustainable and competitive rail freight across Spain, France, Luxembourg and Belgium. (PRESS RELEASE) VALENCIA, 10-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Stadler’s EURO6000 electric locomotive has received official authorisation to operate in Belgium, following the approval for Luxembourg granted at the end of 2025.

The new authorisation further expands the locomotive’s operating footprint in Western Europe and strengthens its role in cross-border freight transport. The EURO6000 is currently the only locomotive operating along the North Sea–Mediterranean Corridor, a key route linking Southern and Northern Europe.

With more than 100 units already in service, the EURO6000 fleet is active in international freight operations between France and Spain, where it has demonstrated strong reliability and performance.

The locomotive is designed for demanding freight operations. It has six axles, 6 MW of power and high tractive effort, enabling it to haul trains of more than 2,000 tonnes on challenging gradients in single-locomotive operation while maintaining competitive commercial speeds.
