BERLIN, 19-Sep-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Stadler proudly presents today together with Havelländische Eisenbahn (HVLE) the new generation of six-axle bi-mode EURODUAL locomotives. HVLE ordered 10 locomotives in 2017 to be used in the transport of goods in Germany.

Stadler’s EURODUAL locomotive maximizes energy efficiency, performance and reliability and therefore, the profitability of rail operators. The powerful locomotive, in both traction modes, is able to run at high speed through the European corridors with mixed traffic. Its state-of-the-art adhesion control system and its impressive tractive effort up to 500kN ensure the greatest hauling capacity in the European market.

EURODUAL also minimizes the environmental impact during the production phase with a recyclability rate of 97.71% and also during its useful life reducing noise and exhaust gas emissions. The CAT engine C175-16, meets latest European normative Stage IIIB and Stage V.

One of the routes where HVLE will use the EURODUAL is on the demanding Blankenburg-Rübeland route, the steepest public freight transport line in Europe with a slope over 63‰, in order to transport trains of 1,650 tons downhill with two locomotives.

German rail freight operator Havelländische Eisenbahn (HVLE) is the launch customer of the new generation of six-axle bi-mode locomotives developed by Stadler for the European market. The contract for the supply of 10 locomotives and their corresponding full service maintenance was signed last year and deliveries will start in 2020. The first two locomotives have started the homologation tests in Germany few weeks ago. The powerful locomotives, rated at 7,000 kW in electric and 2,800 kW in diesel mode, are to be used in freight transport services in the German network, at speeds up to 120km/h, combining both 15kV AC and 25 kV AC electric and diesel operating modes. HVLE is one of the leading heavy haul rail freight operators in Germany.
