(PRESS RELEASE) SALT LAKE CITY, 13-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Stadler and Caltrain have further strengthened their collaboration by signing a Technical Support and Spare Supply Agreement (TSSSA), a critical milestone in maintaining the operational efficiency and reliability of Caltrain’s fleet of electric multiple units (EMUs). This agreement is designed to ensure the consistent availability of materials and top-tier technical support for both current and future Stadler EMUs within Caltrain’s service.

The TSSSA includes a range of services such as on-site technical support, implementation of maintenance management software, comprehensive material management for preventive and corrective maintenance, and advanced diagnostic assistance. This partnership highlights a commitment to delivering exceptional service and reliability for Bay Area commuters.

Under the terms of the agreement, Stadler will deploy a dedicated team of 14 specialists in California to support the ongoing operations of Caltrain’s fleet. These experts will work to maximize fleet performance, ensuring passengers experience safe, reliable, and modern transit. The contract also has provisions for the potential inclusion of a future battery EMU pilot train, demonstrating a forward-looking approach to sustainable transit solutions.

Caltrain’s relationship with Stadler began in 2017 with the procurement of 16 KISS electric train sets. This order was later expanded to 23 train sets, many of which were constructed at Stadler’s facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. These state-of-the-art trains entered revenue service in September 2024, forming a cornerstone of Caltrain’s electrification initiative aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and improving the passenger experience.

“This agreement signifies our mutual dedication to continuous improvement and reliability,” said Rachelle Glazier, Head of Stadler Rail Service US. “We are proud to deepen our partnership with Caltrain and support their mission to deliver clean, efficient, and sustainable transportation for the Bay Area.”

This enhanced collaboration underlines the shared commitment of Stadler and Caltrain to the future of electric rail transportation in California. It sets the stage for seamless and dependable service, aligning with the region’s broader shift toward environmentally friendly transit solutions.
