MRO Europe, Madrid, October 7th, 2014
PARIS, 8-10-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — American ultra low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines, one of the fastest growing airlines in the industry, has chosen Messier-Bugatti-Dowty (Safran) wheels, brakes and MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) services for its fleet of Airbus single aisle aircraft.
Messier-Bugatti-Dowty will supply wheels and carbon brakes for the 52 Spirit A320s and A319s already in operation, along with 45 A320neo and 35 A320ceo aircraft that Sprit has on order. The agreement includes MRO support services, provided by U.S. subsidiary, MBD Wheel and Brake Repair and Services, through its network of repair shops in North America.
Spirit Airlines also selected Messier-Bugatti-Dowty to provide landing gear MRO services on its A319 and A321 fleet, at the company’s MRO operation in Querétaro, Mexico.
“It is imperative that Spirit Airlines has safe and reliable parts and components for our fuel efficient Fit Fleet™ of planes,” says Charlie Rue, Spirit’s vice president of Supply Chain. “Messier-Bugatti-Dowty’s expertise in Airbus landing systems, and their proven performance and reliability they have provided us over the years, are key reasons that led to choosing them for this service.”
Vincent Mascré, Chairman and CEO of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, added, “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Spirit, which becomes our second customer for A320neo wheels and brakes. Through this contract we have consolidated our market position in North America, while also supporting the development of our MRO network.”
These contracts further bolster Messier-Bugatti-Dowty’s global leadership in both Airbus landing gear MRO, as well as the A320 family wheels and carbon brakes market. They also clearly reflect Messier-Bugatti-Dowty’s ability to offer complementary expertise and solutions, addressing the specific needs of Airbus operators.
