Škoda Electric and Solaris consortium to deliver 24 new trolleybuses to the Hungarian capital

PILSEN, 19-11-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — The consortium of companies Škoda Electric and Solaris will deliver 24 new trolleybuses to the Hungarian capital. The Pilsen Škoda company will ensure the delivery of the complete electric equipment and also the final assembly of the vehicles. The contract also includes an option for other 84 trolleybuses, so the total value of the contract may reach 1.7 billion Czech crowns.

“We have been delivering trolleybuses to Hungary since 2007, for example to Debrecen, Szeged and Budapest, where we also participated in the delivery of the subway. Moreover, the last ones from the 31 modern low-floor trams ForCity Classicis are currently heading to Miskolc. The total value of the concluded contracts in Hungary surpasses five billion and we see a further potential for our products in that country. Hungary is one of our key markets,” says Zdeněk Majer, Vice-President of Sales at the company Škoda Transportation.

The project of new trolleybuses for Budapest is financed from EU funds and it includes modern, fully low-floor vehicles with the Solaris coachwork. All vehicles are completely air-conditioned and equipped with a battery, which serves for the operation independent of the traction wiring. Škoda has had experience with this, for example in Swedish Landksrona or Spanish Castellon. The camera system, which guarantees higher safety of passengers, is commonplace. The vehicles also include interesting features, such as a special information system, which counts weights of passengers.

”The delivery of 24 trolleybuses to the Hungarian capital will take place during the second half of 2015. It will include fourteen trolleybuses with the length of 12 metres and ten articulated vehicles with the length of 18 meters. The customer can also exercise an option for more trolleybuses up to the number of 84,“ adds Karel Majer, Director of the Trolleybuses Division at the company Škoda Electric.

The consortium Škoda Electric and Solaris won a tender, where they faced competition from a local manufacturer as well as other manufacturers, for example from Russia. Škoda Electric also has achieved a great success in Italian Bologna this year, where the company will participate to a significant extent in the delivery of 49 trolleybuses. Škoda also has concluded a contract for complete modernisation of 32 articulated trolleybuses in Boston in the USA and the total number of 120 Škoda trolleybuses will be delivered toBratislava, which exercised an option for 40 modern vehicles.
