Skanska Secures Contract to Construct Virginia Tech’s State-of-the-Art College of Engineering

(IN BRIEF) Skanska has entered into an initial contract with Virginia Tech to embark on the construction of a cutting-edge College of Engineering in Virginia, USA, marking a significant milestone for the university’s infrastructure development. Valued at USD 53 million, the contract encompasses early site work release and sets the groundwork for the construction of Mitchell Hall, a new facility set to house multiple departments within the College of Engineering. The project involves the demolition of Randolph Hall and the erection of a 26,500-square meter structure, boasting over 70 percent more space than its predecessor. Notably, the construction will accommodate the existing stability wind tunnel, a key asset for the university, which will be enveloped within Mitchell Hall upon completion. With construction set to commence in spring 2024 and a targeted completion date of spring 2028, Mitchell Hall is poised to become the largest building on Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus, promising to elevate the institution’s academic and research capabilities in engineering.
