Siemens to Acquire Precision Innovations to Expand AI-Powered Chip Planning Capabilities

(IN BRIEF) Siemens has signed an agreement to acquire Precision Innovations Inc., a privately held electronic design automation software company based in San Diego, California. The acquisition will expand Siemens’ EDA portfolio with AI-powered chip planning and early design exploration capabilities, helping semiconductor teams evaluate architectural trade-offs earlier in the system-on-chip design cycle. The technology is designed to improve power, performance and area while reducing design iterations and speeding time to silicon. Precision Innovations’ software is built on the open-source OpenROAD framework and is expected to become part of Siemens’ Digital Design Creation software portfolio. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 21-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens has signed an agreement to acquire Precision Innovations Inc., a privately held electronic design automation software company, in a move that will expand Siemens’ EDA portfolio with AI-powered chip planning capabilities.

The acquisition is intended to help semiconductor teams optimise power, performance and area earlier in the system-on-chip design process, supporting faster design exploration and more efficient development of advanced SoC architectures.

Precision Innovations develops EDA software based on the open-source OpenROAD framework. Its technology helps semiconductor engineering teams assess design feasibility, evaluate architectural trade-offs, reduce design iterations and accelerate time to market as chip complexity continues to increase.

Siemens said the acquisition will strengthen its EDA offering with AI-driven chip planning and early design exploration capabilities. These tools are expected to complement Siemens’ existing digital design and verification solutions by enabling faster feasibility analysis and better-informed downstream decisions.

Precision Innovations is expected to become part of Siemens’ Digital Design Creation software portfolio, adding capabilities that support a more comprehensive end-to-end digital flow across architecture, implementation and full silicon lifecycle management for SoCs.

Ankur Gupta, Executive Vice President, IC Portfolio, Siemens EDA at Siemens Digital Industries Software, said the acquisition will expand Siemens’ ability to support customers facing growing SoC complexity.

He added that integrating Precision Innovations’ AI-powered early design exploration into Siemens’ EDA portfolio can significantly accelerate time to silicon and improve power, performance and area.

Precision Innovations’ solutions are already used by leading semiconductor and technology companies. Siemens said the acquisition will enhance its existing EDA capabilities across digital design and verification workflows.

By combining Precision Innovations’ technology with its broader EDA portfolio, Siemens aims to help customers manage rising design complexity, shorten development cycles and improve engineering productivity.

Tom Spyrou, Chief Executive Officer of Precision Innovations, said joining Siemens will allow the company to scale its technology and bring AI-driven chip planning to a wider group of semiconductor teams.

Closing of the transaction is subject to customary conditions and is expected in the third quarter of calendar year 2026.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
