(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 7-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ —  Siemens AG (ETR: SIE), a German multinational conglomerate and Europe’s largest industrial manufacturing company, announces that Siemens Mobility has secured a major 40-month contract to provide technical support, components, and staff training for the maintenance of 58 metro trains operating on the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The contract, awarded by general contractor SMH Rail, follows the completion of eight years of operations on the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT Line and will focus on ensuring the ongoing reliability and efficiency of the metro system. Siemens will supply critical subsystems, components, and provide technical supervision for SMH Rail’s maintenance team, further cementing Siemens Mobility’s role as a key player in Malaysia’s public transport sector.

Elmar Zeiler, CEO of Siemens Mobility Customer Service, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “This maintenance contract underscores our long-term collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur metro system. Our expertise in rail technology and commitment to sustainability will contribute to the continued efficient operation of this essential public transport network that serves millions of people in the region.”

Datuk PK Nara, Chairman and Managing Director of SMH Rail, expressed confidence in Siemens’ capabilities: “Siemens Mobility’s proven track record and collaborative approach make them the ideal partner for the reconditioning of our Kajang MRT Line trains. We look forward to working with Siemens to enhance the performance and longevity of these vital metro assets.”

This contract builds on Siemens Mobility’s previous work on the Klang Valley MRT Kajang Line project, where the company was responsible for designing the trains and supplying key components such as traction converters, train control systems, and bogies. SMH Rail, as Siemens’ local partner, handled the assembly of the trains under Siemens’ supervision.

Additionally, the scope of the contract includes experts for training and technical supervision from Siemens Mobility Thailand, leveraging the company’s extensive experience with full-service projects on Bangkok’s Blue and Green MRT Lines, where Siemens ensures up to 100% availability.

The maintenance contract plays a pivotal role in ensuring the sustainable and efficient operation of the Klang Valley MRT, a vital transport solution for Kuala Lumpur’s growing population.
