(IN BRIEF) Siemens is supporting Sarla Aviation in the development of its next-generation eVTOL aircraft for urban air mobility through the Siemens Xcelerator software portfolio. Sarla Aviation, based in Bengaluru, plans to launch electric air taxi operations in the city by 2028 and is building an advanced air mobility platform aimed at making aerial commuting more accessible. The company is adopting Siemens’ integrated digital thread to connect product design, simulation, electrical systems, application development and lifecycle management in one digital environment. Sarla Aviation is using Siemens tools including Designcenter™, Simcenter™, Capital™, Polarion™ and Teamcenter® to improve engineering efficiency, reduce physical testing, manage electrical complexity, support certification requirements and strengthen traceability across development.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 5-Aug-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens has announced that Sarla Aviation is using the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of industry software to accelerate development of its next-generation electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, or eVTOL, for urban air mobility.

The collaboration is designed to help Sarla Aviation advance electric air taxi development through an integrated digital thread connecting design, simulation, electrical systems, application development and lifecycle management.

Based in Bengaluru, India, Sarla Aviation aims to transform urban transport by making electric air taxis safe, sustainable and accessible.

The company plans to launch operations in Bengaluru by 2028 and is developing an advanced air mobility platform intended to make aerial commuting as convenient as premium ride-hailing services.

To support its product roadmap, Sarla Aviation has adopted Siemens’ integrated digital thread, creating a unified digital environment across product design, simulation and lifecycle management.

This approach enables a continuous flow of data across development disciplines.

Siemens said the digital thread can help Sarla Aviation reduce design iterations through early-stage simulation, improve collaboration between engineering teams and strengthen the traceability, verification and validation processes required for certification readiness.

Rakesh Gaonkar, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Sarla Aviation, said the company’s ambition is to make electric air mobility accessible at scale while maintaining high standards of safety and performance.

He said working with Siemens and its integrated digital technologies supports Sarla Aviation’s ability to innovate faster and move closer to delivering reliable and sustainable urban air transport.

Mathew Thomas, Vice President and Managing Director for India at Siemens Digital Industries Software, said digital transformation is critical to scaling new mobility solutions.

He said companies such as Sarla Aviation can use a comprehensive digital thread through the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio to accelerate development, improve collaboration and support certification processes for next-generation aircraft.

Sarla Aviation is using a broad range of Siemens software solutions.

These include Designcenter™ software for product engineering from concept through to detailed design.

The company is also using Simcenter™ software for advanced simulation and performance validation, supporting a reduction in physical testing.

Capital™ software is being used for electrical system design, helping manage the complexity of aircraft electrical architecture, including battery management, power distribution and avionics for eVTOL systems.

Polarion™ software supports application development and helps address the complexity of eVTOL development, certification requirements and DO-178C compliance.

Teamcenter® software provides the digital backbone for product data management, collaboration and traceability across design, simulation and manufacturing.

Sarla Aviation will present its latest progress in electric air mobility development at Realize LIVE India.

At the event, Rakesh Gaonkar will discuss how a digital thread approach is helping accelerate innovation in advanced air mobility.
