Siemens and FuelCell Energy Explore Integrated Fuel Cell, Battery Storage and Microgrid Solutions

(IN BRIEF) Siemens and FuelCell Energy have entered into a collaboration to support the deployment of scalable fuel cell-based power generation for distributed energy and mission-critical applications. The agreement, formalised through a memorandum of understanding, will combine Siemens’ electrical infrastructure and integration expertise with FuelCell Energy’s fuel cell power plant technology. Siemens will design and supply electrical balance of plant systems for fuel cell installations, supporting commercial projects of more than 100 MW. The companies will work together on distributed energy systems that integrate fuel cells, battery energy storage, microgrid controls and medium-voltage electrical equipment. The collaboration is expected to support faster deployment, lower costs and more scalable on-site power solutions, particularly for energy-intensive customers such as data centers, industrial facilities, utilities and distributed generation users. The companies also plan to explore pilot projects and new solution development areas, including medium-voltage DC power delivery and modular electrical systems, with a pathway for successful pilots to move into full commercial deployment.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 9-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens and FuelCell Energy, Inc. have announced a collaboration to support the wider deployment of fuel cell-based power generation for distributed energy applications.

The collaboration is intended to align electrical infrastructure design and supply with fuel cell technologies, helping customers deploy scalable on-site power solutions more efficiently. The agreement has been formalised through a memorandum of understanding.

Under the collaboration, Siemens will design and supply electrical balance of plant systems for fuel cell installations. These systems will support the deployment of commercial projects of more than 100 MW, bringing together electrical infrastructure and fuel cell generation in a more integrated approach.

Siemens’ experience in electrical balance of plant design, infrastructure integration and service supports its role in developing electrical systems for fuel cell-based power solutions. FuelCell Energy brings its experience as a turnkey fuel cell power producer, designing, manufacturing, operating and servicing fuel cell power plants for mission-critical applications worldwide.

FuelCell Energy’s systems are used by customers including data centers, industrial facilities, utilities and distributed generation operators. The company’s fuel cell power plants are designed to provide continuous, scalable baseload power close to the point of use.

The collaboration will include joint project development across engineering, system integration and delivery. The companies will work on distributed energy systems that combine fuel cells, battery energy storage, microgrid controls and medium-voltage electrical equipment.

Siemens and FuelCell Energy will also evaluate opportunities to scale these solutions, improve project timelines, reduce costs and increase deployment volumes.

The agreement sets out a pathway for successful pilot projects to move into full-scale commercial deployment. This will include identifying target markets and defining deployment models for future customer applications.
