SGS inaugurates new textile testing laboratory in Semarang, Indonesia

SGS has opened a new textile testing laboratory in Semarang, Indonesia, one of the most important textile and garment manufacturing sites in the region, to support surrounding cities as well as Surakarta (known as Solo) and Yogyakarta, which are known as centers of batik production. This new laboratory compliments SGS’s existing facility in Jakarta.

JAKARTA, INDONESIA, 27-Apr-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — The new state-of-the-art laboratory has been awarded ISO 17025 Accreditation by KAN (Indonesia’s National Accreditation Committee) provides physical testing for a full range of apparel and textile products. SGS’s presence in Central Java contributes to and strengthens the local apparel industry’s ability to meet global standards and acceptability. Operating since November 19, 2015, the company’s Semarang laboratory caters for the needs of domestic and international clients.

Indonesia is a hub for textile and ready-made garment exports to USA, European and Japan markets with total exports of USD 9.27 billion last year. The presence of SGS in Semarang will provide more convenient and faster services to the Central Java Market, which contributes around USD 2.29 billion for textile and garment product export. Complimentary to SGS’s existing testing laboratory in Jakarta, and in respect of increasing demand for consumer product testing services in Indonesia, this new laboratory is ideally placed for Semarang, Solo and Yogyakarta, the center of textile industry, and Surabaya, the center of footwear and leather industry. SGS’s state-of-the-art facility is fully equipped to address these requirements, as well as sustainability management in the apparel and footwear industry for physical and chemical testing service.

Increased consumer awareness on the quality and safety of textile and garment products, as well as comprehensive global regulatory requirements, makes it vital for brands, retailers and manufacturers to meet these challenges, customer expectations and regulatory requirements.

The new capacity and testing capabilities of the SGS Indonesia laboratory serve the country’s ever-expanding textile industry by providing valuable and rapid testing services to local textile and garment manufacturers needing to comply with international regulations and requirements.
