Sener to Supply Advanced Aerial Targets to INTA for ATLANTE 26 Exercises in Spain

(IN BRIEF) Sener has secured a contract from Spain’s National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA) to provide SCRAB III, SCRAB II and MOAI aerial target systems for the ATLANTE 26 exercises at the El Arenosillo Test Centre in Huelva. The systems will support air-to-air live-fire training, C-UAS missions and air-to-air gunnery exercises while enabling controlled evaluation of air defence procedures and capabilities. The award builds on a relationship between Sener and INTA dating back to 1994; since then, Sener has produced more than 1,500 aerial target platforms and delivered over 3,500 field services across 19 countries. The contract also follows Sener’s July 2026 framework agreement with Sweden’s FMV for aerial target systems at the Vidsel test range.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 3-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Sener has been awarded a contract by the Directorate General of Spain’s National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA) to supply advanced aerial target systems for the ATLANTE 26 exercises.

The contract will provide the El Arenosillo Test Centre (CEDEA) in Huelva with SCRAB III, SCRAB II and MOAI systems for air-to-air live-fire campaigns, Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) firing missions and air-to-air gunnery exercises involving banner towing.

The systems will support advanced training for air force units and allow procedures and air defence capabilities to be evaluated in controlled environments.

SCRAB and MOAI systems support multiple training scenarios

Sener developed the SCRAB III, SCRAB II and MOAI platforms for military training, testing and air defence capability evaluation.

The systems can replicate different flight profiles and operational scenarios, allowing military units to train against varied aerial threat characteristics.

Sener said its solutions are modular, programmable and interoperable with European and NATO systems.

Their development draws on the company’s expertise in unmanned systems, avionics, navigation and control, communications and mission simulation.

SCRAB III provides highest performance in the family

The SCRAB III is the highest-performance aerial target within Sener’s SCRAB family.

The subsonic platform is powered by two turbine engines and can reach speeds of up to 390 knots.

It is designed for demanding training exercises, including those involving long-range air defence systems such as PATRIOT, AMRAAM and NASAMS.

Its autopilot enables autonomous execution of mission phases from launch through recovery.

Together, SCRAB III, SCRAB II and MOAI give INTA access to a broader range of capabilities suited to different training requirements and threat profiles.

Sener said this flexibility is increasingly important as military forces respond to a changing operational environment and the growing use of unmanned aerial systems.

Partnership with INTA dates back more than three decades

The contract strengthens Sener’s longstanding relationship with INTA and the Spanish Armed Forces.

Sener entered the aerial target sector in 1994 through development of the ALBA target system in partnership with INTA.

Since then, the company has produced more than 1,500 aerial target platforms and delivered over 3,500 field services to national and international customers.

Its aerial target operations have extended across 19 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

International expansion continues

The ATLANTE 26 award follows further international expansion in Sener’s aerial target business.

In July 2026, the company signed a framework agreement with FMV, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, to supply aerial targets for Sweden’s Vidsel test range.

That agreement covers several types of platforms, training for Swedish personnel and an initial contract for the delivery of MOAI units.

Sener said its combination of proprietary platforms, associated operational services and international experience enables it to support requirements spanning operational readiness, system evaluation and military training.

Through its autonomous systems business, the company develops solutions incorporating platforms, navigation and control systems, communications and field services.

Sener also has capabilities in missile actuation and control, guidance, navigation and control, advanced communications and autonomous systems.

José Antonio Ceballos, Director of Remote Control Systems at Sener, said the new contract confirms INTA’s confidence in the company’s technology and expertise developed over more than three decades in the aerial target sector.

He said Sener’s family of systems allows the company to support different mission profiles for advanced Spanish Armed Forces training while continuing to expand internationally.
