(PRESS RELEASE) BONN, 30-Nov-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Deutsche Telekom (ETR: DTE), one of the world’s leading integrated telecommunications companies and the largest telecommunications provider in Europe by revenue, announces that its subsidiary T-Systems has collaborated with Google Cloud to provide Google Distributed Cloud Hosted (GDC Hosted) for customers in Germany with the highest data sovereignty requirements. GDC Hosted is a disconnected cloud solution from Google Cloud, operating on physically separated (“air-gapped”) servers, distinct from Google Cloud’s international backbone and the public internet. This unique setup caters to industries with stringent data sovereignty needs, enabling them to leverage Google Cloud’s extensive range of cloud services. T-Systems will manage the service on behalf of its customers, who have the flexibility to choose between on-premise servers or hosting within a T-Systems data center. GDC Hosted is a scalable solution, allowing customers to begin with four data racks and scale up as their workloads grow. Customers can now apply for a proof-of-concept phase to assess the suitability of the solution for their specific business requirements.

GDC Hosted seamlessly integrates with T-Systems’ existing Google Cloud offering, making it easy for customers to operate GDC Hosted alongside Google Cloud services. This approach caters to the needs of customers in highly regulated industries. The solution is built on the Kubernetes API, aligning with Google Cloud’s strong track record in open-source IT.

Key Features of Google Distributed Cloud Hosted:

  • Local control plane enables configuration without connecting to Google Cloud’s global backbone, ensuring adherence to strict security and privacy requirements.
  • Based on Google Cloud-native architecture of Anthos and Kubernetes, with software updates managed by T-Systems personnel located in Germany.
  • Offers access to Google Cloud tools, including artificial intelligence and Kubernetes, empowering organizations to harness the latest technologies for their most sensitive workloads.

Greg Hyttenrauch, Senior Vice President for Cloud Services at T-Systems, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “At T-Systems, we are very pleased to become a provider of Google Distributed Cloud Hosted in Germany. This valuable addition to our cloud portfolio lets us deliver Google Cloud’s powerful cloud solutions to our customers, combined with the very highest security and data-residency requirements. This underscores our commitment to providing truly hybrid cloud landscapes, tailored to the individual needs of each customer. We invite our customers to take part in a proof-of-concept phase and gauge how GDC Hosted helps meet their business needs.”

Sachin Gupta, VP & GM, Infrastructure Solutions Group at Google Cloud, stated, “Google Cloud is committed to helping customers accelerate their digital transformations on their own terms – even when faced with stringent sovereignty and security requirements. With Distributed Cloud Hosted, T-Systems can now provide the functionality, flexibility, and scalability of the cloud without customers needing to connect to the public internet.”
