SEB Maintains Dominance as Nordic Sustainability Advisor

(IN BRIEF) SEB has been ranked as the top sustainability advisor for large companies and financial institutions in the Nordics for the fourth consecutive year. The ranking covers Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and the overall Nordic region. Prospera’s Sustainability Advisor 2023 report, based on customer surveys, revealed SEB’s sustained leadership. Although SEB slightly lost points among corporate customers, it improved ratings among financial institutions, maintaining its top position in the corporate segment and strengthening its standing in the financial sector. The bank intends to further develop its sustainability advisory services by understanding clients’ needs and integrating sustainability into their business models in line with the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 5-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB (SEB) (STO: SEB-A), a Swedish financial group leader on the Nordic market, has once again been recognized as the foremost sustainability advisor to large companies and financial institutions across the Nordics. This marks the fourth consecutive year that SEB has claimed the top spot in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and the Nordics overall.

Hans Beyer, Chief Sustainability Officer at SEB, expressed his delight, stating, “It is an extraordinarily pleasing announcement that we continue to earn our clients’ trust for our way of developing solutions that help them manage their sustainability challenges. In this way, we contribute to the transition and to their competitiveness.”

The ranking is based on Prospera’s report, Sustainability Advisor 2023, which consolidates results from over 30 customer surveys involving approximately 1,900 companies and institutions conducted throughout 2023. The surveys encompass various sectors, including Corporate and Institutional Banking, with separate assessments for different product areas.

SEB secured the number one position in the Nordics with a score of 1188 points (compared to 1243 points the previous year). Although SEB saw a slight decrease in points among corporate customers, it made improvements in its ratings among financial institutions. Consequently, SEB successfully maintained its top-ranking position in the corporate segment and further strengthened its position among financial institutions.

In terms of individual countries, SEB retained its number one position in Sweden and Finland. Notably, this year, it also claimed the top spot in Denmark. In Norway, SEB achieved a shared second-place ranking.

Hans Beyer emphasized the significance of this recognition, particularly in Denmark, a nation that has made substantial investments in energy islands for offshore wind power and hydrogen production.

To continue enhancing sustainability advisory services, Beyer highlighted the importance of comprehending clients’ situations and the ecosystems they operate within. As companies increasingly adopt sustainability reporting under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD*), sustainability considerations are becoming integral to all aspects of their operations. Therefore, SEB aims to provide deeper insights into industry-specific developments and the integration of sustainability into clients’ business models.

*CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) is an EU directive on how companies should report sustainability information in their annual reports.
